Once the two hit the ice, they made instant television gold. Will we see them competing in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing?

Here’s the scoop on this year’s Virtue and Moir:

To What Extent Are Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir Participating in the Olympics?

Neither Moir nor Virtue will be competing at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. In all likelihood, we will never see the pair compete on the ice again as a team. The couple said goodbye to ice skating back in September of 2019. Virtue was 30 and Moir was 32 at the time.

After 22 years, it feels like the perfect time to step away from the sport, Virtue said in a video shared on their respective Twitter sites. “Both of us are deeply invested in this, and it’s bound to be an intense discussion.

Simply said, we are overwhelmed with appreciation. How very fortunate we are to have experienced all of this with each other and with all of you.” For Moir, “it simply feels like the proper time to say good bye, while we’re still loving and enjoying the sport as much as we always have.”

Moir said she believes the next generation of Canadian ice dancers will “create new trails” and “beat the records set by the couple.” After 22 years of skating together, Virtue and Moir chose to retire.

Now that Virtue has settled into her corporate career, she has began pursuing an executive MBA at Queen’s University’s Smith School of Business. Virtue told The Kit that she has tried to leave figure skating behind her and that, while she still occasionally puts on skates, she does so much less frequently than in the past.

Even though Moir does not spend as much time on the ice as he used to, he has not abandoned the skating lifestyle. Now he works as a coach at the Ice Academy of Montreal in Ontario, Canada. Both he and Virtue had spent their final two years of their careers training at the institution.

At What Ages Did Tessa Virtue And Scott Moir Compete in Their First Olympic Games?

Virtue and Moir made their Olympic debut together quite early in each of their skating careers. Virtue and Moir, both then aged twenty, won all three events at the 2010 Canadian Championships, giving them a hat trick of national titles.

Because of that, they were able to qualify for the 2010 Olympic competition in Vancouver, where they went on to win the ice dance gold.

They became the first North American team to win an Olympic gold medal in the ice dance event, the youngest gold medalists in the event’s history, and the first ice dance team to win in their home country.

The Combined Total of Tessa Virtue’s And Scott Moir’s Olympic Medal Haul is How Many?

History after history was made by Virtue and Moir. In team and ice dance competitions, they took home silver and gold medals from the 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics, respectively.

Together, Virtue and Moir have won five Olympic medals, counting their ice dance gold from 2010. They have more medals than any other figure skater in Olympic history. They are tied for the most gold medals won by a single figure skater at the Olympics with three apiece.
