Tennessee Basketball A Juggernaut In March Madness Opener. But ...

INDIANAS – It is not always the case that first impressions are accurate. What meets the eye up front is not often what ends up happening. The Vols’ 88-56 thrashing of Longwood in the opening round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament was, therefore, not the result of any kind of craziness.

And yet, here we are, with what nearly everyone predicted: Quick and simple. An easy opening round for a squad looking further ahead than the first weekend of the bracket.

All of these assured Vols, led by Santiago Vescovi’s 18, Josiah-Jordan Jones’ 17, and John Fulkerson’s 15 points, put on a display.

A 25-Point Lead For Tennessee at Halftime.

They did an excellent job of defending and even better job of shooting. With a 13-0 run and a 25-point lead for Tennessee at halftime, the game was effectively over. We can rest assured that the current situation won’t last forever.

Tennessee (27-7), the No. 3 seed, will play Michigan (18-14), the No. 11 seed, on Saturday in the second round. Michigan blew over Colorado State (75-63) in its tournament opener on Thursday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse behind Juwan Howard’s late-game heroics.

Fulkerson, a native of East Tennessee

Fulkerson, a native of East Tennessee who grew up dreaming of playing football for the Tennessee Volunteers, has returned to the Volunteer State in the hopes of writing a new, more satisfying ending to that dream. For Fulkerson, March Madness marks the end of his time with Tennessee.

He seems to be approaching it with an uninhibited sense of happiness, fully appreciating the magic of the present moment. For Fulkerson, “this year I’m just trying to make the most of it because you never really know when it will be taken away from you,” he explained.

Because of what happened at the end of his first senior season, Fulkerson has a hazy recollection of his time in Indianapolis.

Fulkerson has a hazy recollection

Because of what happened at the end of his first senior season, Fulkerson has a hazy recollection of his time in Indianapolis. During the SEC Tournament, Fulkerson was injured after Florida’s Omar Payne elbowed him in the head, causing a fractured face and a concussion.

The rest of the season was spent with Fulkerson on the disabled list. Fulkerson decided to return to Tennessee because of the damage he sustained there. In the previous season, Fulkerson was hoping to make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament if the Vols made it past the first weekend.

Caused Him Considerable Torment.

He suffered through injuries in his hotel room, away from his friends and family. The uncertainty of when or if he would suit up for the Vols again caused him considerable torment.
