Ginni Thomas Reportedly Pressed Trumps Chief Of Staff On ...

It has been claimed that Justice Clarence Thomas’s wife, Ann Thomas, has pushed President Donald Trump’s senior assistant to try to reverse the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Meadows submitted the texts to the House panel looking into the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. He eventually ceased helping the commission.

These conversations raise the possibility that Ginni Thomas communicated with White House staff or members of Trump’s legal team.

Between November 2020 and January 2021, “that was the beginning of a 29 text-message exchange,” Costa said. NPR has not been able to verify the story independently.

This is not Ginni Thomas’s First Brush With Controversy.

This month, Ginni Thomas responded to criticism that she and her husband, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, have a conflict of interest due to their respective political activities.

She attended the Jan. 6 rally before the violence at the Capitol, but she left before Trump spoke at midday and before the rioters penetrated the Capitol complex, as she said in an interview with the right website The Washington Free Beacon.

In February 2021, a month after Joe Biden was sworn in as president, the Supreme Court refused to hear election challenges brought by Trump and his allies, and Thomas wrote a blistering dissent saying that the court should have heard the case to ensure the rules of the road were clear for the next time around.

It is unclear whether Thomas was aware of his wife’s correspondence with Meadows. In light of the text conversations, it is fair to wonder whether Clarence Thomas should have recused himself from election-related issues last year and if he should in the future.

Stephen Gillers, a law professor at New York University and the author of several seminal texts on legal ethics, told NPR that the newly released papers had caused him to reevaluate his previous positions on these issues.

Last Words

To date, we have no idea if Ginni Thomas’ messages to Mark Meadows were known of. Are they something that was in that hoard?

Was he aware that his ruling would involve a committee and that their records would include her messages? To sum up, was he making a decision about a matter in which his wife was involved?
